The Antaibao Open-Pit Coal Mine of China Coal Ping朔 Group is located at the junction of Shuozhou City and Pinglu District in Shanxi Province. It is the largest open-pit coal mine in China and the first Sino-foreign joint venture after China's reform and opening up, known as the "experimental field of China's reform and opening up." It covers a total area of 376 square kilometers, with geological reserves of approximately 12.6 billion tons, a high proportion of which is suitable for open-pit mining. In 1979, during Deng Xiaoping's visit to the United States, a cooperation intention was reached with Armand Hammer, chairman of Occidental Petroleum Corporation. In 1984, both sides signed an agreement for joint development with a total investment of US$649 million. The project officially went into production on September 1, 1987, producing 3.5 million tons of finished coal by the end of that year. After the US side withdrew from the cooperation, it is now solely owned and operated by the Chinese side, becoming a backbone coal mine under China Coal Group, with an annual output of 20 million tons of raw coal. It mainly supplies the East China, North China, and Northeast China regions, and also transmits thermal power to North China through the West-to-East power transmission project.

Antaibao Open-Pit Coal Mine adopts a single-bucket electric shovel excavation and front-loading truck intermittent process. Large-scale electric shovels, heavy-duty trucks, drilling rigs, and other equipment are mostly imported from the United States, Japan, and other countries. The mining and stripping operations have achieved 100% mechanization, and the mine has also achieved comprehensive modern management. Since its establishment, it has adhered to the principle of reclamation during mining, pioneering the national precedent for mine land reclamation. One yuan is extracted for every ton of coal produced as reclamation funds. Currently, large-scale land reclamation has been completed, and the ecological environment construction of the mining area has reached a leading level in China. In addition, the coal mine continues to explore new paths for industrial development, such as building nurseries and planting alfalfa to develop pasture economy. The ecological industry has become one of the five major industries. With advanced mining technology and large-scale production, its products are also exported to more than 20 countries in Europe and Asia, occupying an important position in China's coal industry.
