The Tongmei Tashan Power Plant Phase II Expansion Project is the first project in Shanxi Province to obtain environmental impact assessment and approval for low-calorific coal-fired power generation. The project started its preliminary work in 2007 and obtained approval in December 2013. The project is estimated to have a total investment of 5.022 billion yuan and will construct two 660,000 kW ultra-supercritical direct air-cooled low-calorific coal-fired generating units. It is planned to achieve dual-unit operation this October.
"The project officially started on March 1, 2016, with a planned construction period of 21 months, 8 months less than the standard construction period for the power industry and 3 months less than the approved implementation plan for low-calorific coal-fired power generation projects in Shanxi Province."
